Maria Cristina Madau was born in Cagliari and has lived both in Paris and Milan. She attended The High School of Art and in 1977 dedicated herself to the study of dance, corporeal and experimental theatre. In 1983, to further her studies, she moved to Paris, where she attended R.I.D.C. (Rencontres Internationales de Danse Contemporaine) and joined Etienne Decroux’s research laboratory. She moved to Milan in 1987 and there she graduated at The Academy of Fine Arts of Brera. Returne to Paris and work as assistent director under such internationally acknowledged theater director as Jérome Savary and Yoshi Oida. In the meantime she continued with her own theatrical research.

In her latest creations she forms and experiment with a new style that develops from different formal and communicative planes: body, dramma, painting and visual arts.

In the course of her artistic ventures, she was a contemporary theatre director, lyrical opera director, manage diverse interdisciplinary projects and a participant of many groups for video installations and performances.

At the beginning of her artistical research, putting herself in the hardship reality of prison, she made a documentary Babel Babel with the inmates of Penal Institute for Juveniles in Cagliari. It was produced and distributed by a local sardinian television Videolina, Cagliari 1993.

Theatrical project with inmates from juvenile detention center, l’Inferno (The Hell) where she’s the authoress with guests from the I.P.M. Beccaria di Milano in 1994.

In 1995 in cooperate on text with the author, Rocco D’Onghia, and directe Respiri nel cielo, with the participation of the local children from the poor areas, gypsies and actors from the Piccolo Teatro di Milano.

Created a one time show L’errante in tha San Domenico’s  Crypt in Cagliari for the art, music and theatre manifestation, 1986.

Among different theatre atelier:

From 1997 to 1999 she led a workshop for the patients of the Centre de Jour de l’Hôpital Psychiatrique Saint-Anne in Paris.

In 2005, led a workshop for a group of the guests of the Centre for the Handicapped in Chateau Thierry.
